Stephen Bearden

Stephen was in the Goin Band from 1992-1996 and played trumpet in Band 2. He begins his 18th year as a Realtor and Broker/Owner of Lubbock Discount Realty. Stephen’s wife, Holly, is a retired teacher and Realtor. They have 2 daughters, Bonnie Bearden(Goin Band horn, Band 2 2015-2018) is a Band Director in Lake Jackson. Katie (Bearden) Unfred just graduated from Tech and lives in Lubbock. Stephen was in KKY and still plays with various groups like Alumni Court Jesters, Westwinds Brass Band and Hub City Jazz Orchestra.

Texas Tech Director of Bands

Dr. Sarah McKoin

Dr. Sarah McKoin is the Director of Bands at Texas Tech University and Associate Professor of Music as well as Director of the Wind Ensemble at the Brevard Music Center in Brevard, North Carolina. Dr. McKoin conducts the Texas Tech University Wind Ensemble and teaches all levels of conducting and wind literature. She is entering her ninth summer in residence at the Brevard Music Center where she serves on the conducting faculty and conducts the Transylvania Wind Ensemble comprised of college-aged musicians from throughout the country.

Advisory Role

Jay Sedberry

Jay played Alto Sax in Band 2 from 2001-2005 and serves on the GBA Board as an Advisory Board Member. He graduated from Texas Tech with a degree in History and a minor in Music and began teaching at Ropes ISD. He is in his 18th year at Ropes and serves as the District Technology Director, One-Act Play Director, Assistant Band Director, UIL Coach, and Social Media Director. Jay’s wife, Coleen, is a teacher at Frenship Middle School and is also a Texas Tech graduate. They have two daughters (Jadyn – 13, and Jordyn – 9) who both love Texas Tech and are future Red Raiders.

Director of the Goin' Band from Raiderland

Dr. Joel E. Pagán

Dr. Joel E. Pagán is Assistant Professor of Music, Associate Director of Bands, and Director of Athletic Bands at Texas Tech University where he serves as the director of the Goin’ Band from Raiderland, conductor of the Concert Band, and director of the Court Jesters Indoor Athletic Band.

Parliamentarian

Britt Gordon

Britt played Saxophone in Band 1 before becoming the Band 1 Drum Major. He was in the Goin Band from 1986-1990. He also was in Court Jesters. He served as the Kappa Kappa Psi President and received a degree in Music Education from TTU. After graduation, he had a successful, yet short career as a band director at several schools around the South Plains before going into administration. He was a principal for 23 years before retiring in 2022 from Borden County ISD. Britt met his wife, Kelly in the Goin Band. They have two daughters, Kinsey and Kate. Britt is still involved with the band as he helps with the Lockney Longhorn band and he is an educational consultant with Grayson Executive Learning. He also officiates football and basketball from time to time. He serves as the Parliamentarian for the GBA.
